THE SUMMER SCHOOL IS ACCESSIBLE TO ALL! To help remove monetary obstacles to participation in the Summer School program such as registration, lodging or transportation costs, Institut du Nouveau Monde has created a sponsorship program designed to assist those who need to apply for financial support. Through the Sponsorship Program, a sponsor (Member of Parliament, financial institution, company or other entity) accepts to cover the registration, lodging and transportation costs of one or more participants. In return for this financial support, sponsors are assured visibility at the Summer School (in accordance with the current Visibility Program). Participants must undertake steps to find a sponsor. Should their efforts be unsuccessful, INM can assist them by assigning an available sponsor. In 2007, a total of 390 participants benefited from the Sponsorship Program. This year, with 1000 expected participants, considerable efforts will have to be deployed to find sponsors for everyone.
JUSTIFICATION FOR SPONSORSHIP Should you expect to be unable to cover the cost of your participation in the 2008 Summer School, then, the Sponsorship Program is for you. HOW TO FIND SPONSORS? In your community, target organizations, individuals and businesses who can potentially become sponsors. If you are employed, ask your employer for financial support for training or participation in a convention. After all, one of the main objectives of the Summer School is to promote knowledge, awareness and skills necessary to develop an active citizenship. You are encouraged to contact businesses, organizations, associations or Caisses Populaires in your community or region as these entities usually have budgets to support educational and/or social activities (see model letters below). Another method is to approach your local MPs (provincial or federal). To this end, you can personnalize the model letters which are proposed below. Finally, don't forget that many people within your own immediate circle of acquaintances can be good sources of support too. Finally, should you still be unable to gather enough support on your own, INM can put you in contact with MP's, Caisses Populaires, social organizations or businesses who already have committed to support financially young participants (see below). WHAT TO DO IN CASE YOU CANNOT GET FULL FINANCIAL SUPPORT? Should the contacted MP, Caisse Populaire, social organization or business be unable to cover the total cost of registration, lodging and transportation, INM will endeavour to find you another sponsor. However, you should take note that, in this case, certain criteria will apply (see below) and that, in the case where INM is unable to find another sponsor, the participant will have to cover all costs on his own.
